Background

The Kansas Clinical Improvement Collaborative (KCIC) and Fort Hays Tech | Northwest have been awarded a federal grant to help train and employ a cadre of Chronic Care Managers to serve rural Kansas in the wake of the COVID pandemic.

This federal grant will provide funding for the educational expenses for a limited number of Medical Assistant students. In addition to providing educational expenses, the grant provides financial support to the healthcare facility that hires the students who have completed the Medical Assisting training.

Medical Assistant students who are hired by the healthcare facilities will work as Chronic Care Managers, providing telehealth support to patients in rural Kansas who have been diagnosed with chronic health conditions requiring medical attention that is not readily available except by telehealth.

Award Amount

For the 2025-2026 Academic Year, the KCIC Scholarship for Chronic Care Manager Trainees will cover expenses for the following:

  • Tuition/fees
  • Books/Supplies
  • Housing
  • Meal Plan
  • Technology Fees
  • Examination fee for CMA/RMA certification $150
  • Reimbursement for expenses associated with the Hays on-site training experience for mileage, lodging, food (students must submit receipts to obtain reimbursement)

The Fine Print

  • Only 10 scholarships will be awarded per academic year, with a Priority Deadline May 1, 2025. If more than 10 applications are received, the process for deciding the top 10 will include…Student must submit ALL the required Medical Assisting admission documents by the above date, along with the submission based in the quality of essay on scholarship application, GPA, will be considered for the KCIC scholarship.
  • Scholarship funds will not be disbursed to the student; scholarship funds will go directly into the student’s Fort Hays Tech | Northwest account balance.
  • Expenses related to the on-site training will be reimbursable upon submission of verified receipts.

ALL CORE MEDICAL ASSISTING COURSES MUST BE PASSED WITH A 70% OR ABOVE IN ORDER TO GRADUATE FROM THE MEDICAL ASSISTING PROGRAM.

  • Online students are required have a currant BLS/AED certification for admission into the program and it must submit to admissions prior to the start of the Fall Semester
  • Hybrid students are (required) to attend (3) Weeklong on Campus training-
  • Aug 18-22, 2025 for Orientation to program. Reimbursement for expenses associated with the weeklong on-site training experience for mileage, lodging, food (students must submit receipts to obtain reimbursement)
  • Hybrid Student are (required) to attend Weeklong on Campus 1st semester clinical laboratory skills- Oct 6-10, 2025. Reimbursement for expenses associated with the weeklong on-site training experience for mileage, lodging, food (students must submit receipts to obtain reimbursement)
  • Hybrid Student are (required) to attend Weeklong on Campus 2nd semester clinical laboratory skills-Feb 9- 13, 2026 Reimbursement for expenses associated with the weeklong on-site training experience for mileage, lodging, food (students must submit receipts to obtain reimbursement)
